After gaining the Khanship of Clan Hell's Horses from Malavai Fletcher in late
3064, James Cobb focused on rebuilding his Clan's military, as the conflicts
that his mad predecessor had led the Clan into resulted in much glory, but
heavily battered the Horse's touman and its integrity; with the help of saKhan
Tanya DeLaurel, the new Khan also purged the leadership of Horses of all
Crusader-aligned warriors who disgraced the Clan during the Wars of Possession.
Khan Cobb also restarted production of the Hephaestus Omni-Hovertank, a design
which was based off the SLDF-era's Kanga, minus the jump jets.
Khan James Cobb also planned on producing a new 'mech to not only rebuild his
touman, but also to raise its morale. Rather than start from scratch, he asked
his Scientist Caste to base the new design off the Nova, a medium Omnimech that
was was no longer in production. Cobb also partnered with Clan Coyote, the
inventors of the Omnimech, to help with the Omnimech's development, in exchange
for production rights.
After one year, the efforts of the Scientist Caste from both Clans bore fruit,
and soon had the new design ready for production. The Hell's Horses were given
the honor of naming the new Omnimech; thus Khan James Cobb bestowed it the name
"Tulpar", naming it after a winged/swift horse in Turkic mythology. The first
Tulpar Omnimechs rolled off the Niles Industrialplex Alpha and Epsilon assembly
lines in January 3066, with the Coyotes' Drennan Industrialplex beginning
production three months after.

Capabilities:
Designed as the successor to the Nova, the designers initially planned the
Tulpar to be mostly similar to its predecessor, but with one key difference;
the Talpur could twist its torso, whereas the Nova's torso was fixed. This was
done by using technical schematics and components from the Stormcrow's gyro .
Changes in plans later led to the Tulpar becoming heavier by 5 tons, and given
9.5 tons of ferro-fibrous armor for protection; this gave the Tulpar a bulkier
body, while still retaining its the same low-profile silhouette as its
predecessor. Finally, unlike the Nova, the Tulpar doesn't have any built-in
double heat sinks besides the minimum requirement, to make the Tulpar as
flexible as possible. Overall, these changes left that the Tulpar with 23.5
tons of podspace for use.
The Prime Configuration primarily features a direct all-energy loadout. An ER
Large Laser in each side torso are the main long-range weapons, while a trio of
ER Medium Lasers on each arm are meant for close-combat. An Anti-Missile
System is also included to help protect against enemy missiles, while a
Targeting Computer increases the weapons' accuracy . Even with 15 double heat
sinks, this configuration is capable of producing almost twice as much heat as
it can dissipate.
Just like the Nova A, the Tulpar's Configuration A has an ER PPC on each arm
for long-range combat, backed up by a Medium Pulse Laser. For additional
protection, this configuration has an Anti-Missile System and an ECM Suite,
while 17 double heat sinks keeps the waste heat under control.
A semi-long to mid-ranged brawler, Configuration B has an Ultra AC/10 on the
right arm as the main weapon, supplied with three tons of ammo. This is
supported by a Large Pulse Laser on the left arm, and an ER Medium Laser in
each side torso. Twelve double heat sinks help keep the heat manageable,
while a Micro Pulse Laser is intended to deal with soft targets.
Configuration C is a cool-running fire-support design, featuring a Gauss Rifle
on the left arm, and an LRM-15 launcher on the right arm, with each weapon
supplied by two tons of ammo. A Medium Pulse Laser in each side torso provides
close-combat back-up.
Capable of engaging the enemy at any range, Configuration D features an ER PPC
on the right arm as its primary long-range weapon, supported by a flexible
LB-X Autocannon/10 on the other arm. A pair of ER Medium Lasers and an SRM-6
launcher provide close-range firepower, while an additional double heat sinks
helps dissipate waste heat.
Configuration E features a Heavy Large Laser and a pair of ER Medium Lasers as
the primary weapons, supported by a pair of Heavy Medium Lasers for close-range
combat, and an LRM-10 for long-range attacks. A Targeting Computer was also
included to help counter the Heavy Lasers' notorious inaccuracy. Even with 20
double heat sinks, this configuration is still considered a heat hog.
Configuration F has an ATM-6 on each arm, which are capable of firing
ammunition for long, medium, and short ranges, which have increasing warhead
payloads as the ranges close. Backing up these weapons are an ER Large Laser
and a pair of Medium Pulse Lasers. Two more double heat sinks help keep waste
heat under control, while a Light Active Probe helps detect hidden enemies.
Featuring the latest in Gauss technology, Configuration G features a HAG-20 and
an LRM-20 missile launcher for long-range combat. These are backed up by a
pair of ER Medium Lasers, while an AP Gauss Rifle protects against enemy
battlearmor.
Solely used for urban combat, the Talpur's Configuration S is almost similar to
the Nova S. Seven Medium Pulse Lasers are its main weapons, with three per
arm, and one on the head. These are backed up by a Plasma Cannon and a Micro
Pulse Laser, and an Active Probe helps detect hidden enemies. Fourteen total
double heat sinks keep waste heat within reasonable levels.
Battle History:
The Tulpar was first sighted during the initial stages of the Clan Hell's
Horses' invasion of Clan Wolf space in 3070, where its appearance confused the
Clan Wolf forces. Initially designating the new 'mech as the "Storm Nova", it
was not until late 3072 that the Wolves finally learned of the 55-ton 'mech's
true name; by that time, the Horses have taken a big chunk of territory from
the Wolves.
Deployment:
As a workhorse design, the Tulpar has seen widespread use in Hell's Horses
touman. Besides the Horses, Clan Coyote and Clan Stone Lion are the other
major users of the Tulpar Omnimech.
