Overview:
After being reactivated in 3055 following a three-year rebuild, the ELH's 71st
Light Horse Regiment found themselves facing their first test a month later,
when they faced off against a Clan Jade Falcon raiding force.  Not only did the
71st respulsed the enemy raid, but also captured a rare Night Gyr Omnimech as a
result of their successful defence.  After successfully repairing the captured
'mech, the 71st Light Horse modified the Night Gyr's loadout, resulting in a
custom configuration known as "AA".
Capabilities:
The Night Gyr AA was armed in the same vein as the Rifleman II, with each arm
carrying an LB 10-X Autocannon and a Large Pulse Laser, backed up by an ER
Medium Laser in each side torso.  This weapons configuration made this specific
Night Gyr fairly effective against enemy aircraft, although it could hold its
own against enemy 'mechs as well.  If there is a limitation with this design,
it is that the base 12 double sinks can only dissipate so much waste heat,
requiring the pilot to keep an eye on the heat gauge.
Deployment:
The Night Gyr AA would be deployed primarily by the 71st Light Horse Regiment,
where it proved its worth, and after three years of fending off the Jade Falcon
raids, the 71st managed to recover three more Night Gyr Omnimechs.  By the time
the 71st Light Horse Regiment fought against the Jade Falcons in Coventry in
3058, the ELH unit managed to field a lance consisting of nothing but Night Gyr
AA 'mechs.
