Hand held weapons

MaxTech has rules for handheld weapons on pg 77-78. I've been contemplating the option for LAM since they can't Omni, and even if rule's are allowed that make OmniLAM's possible I'm fairly sure handheld weapons could be cheaper.

I just wondered whats out there or what some good suggestions would be for a medium glass cannon even if not LAM, ie I want to use medium to long range weapons where possible, but I can def see how an Inferno-OS could be useful in a forest or fuel depot..

Your biggest problem is you're limited to 5.5 tons of hand held weapons for lams.

2 tons Lrm 5 1 ton ammo 2 tons heat sinks .5 tons armor.

Now if you can carry a handheld weapon in fighter mode, and the lift hoist option are other points of interest.

I'm also considering using the maxlift/carry rules where it slows and strains your mech, obviously requiring planting or trucking said weapons onsite. excellent str8forward suggest btw thx

Actually, handheld weapons have the same heat sink rules as vehicles (for energy weapons only; single sinks only), so Thunder's LRM 5 example could actually mount two 5-packs for 12 volleys of 10 missiles. That's nothing to sneeze at.

Neat.  I hope that is a change I missed when they switched to TW...  Else I will feel dumber.

Might be. That set of rules was in the base copy of Tactical Operations I own.

Not sure about that, but handhelds have made it so it's wrong to not have every 'mech carrying 10% of their weight in rocket launcher handhelds.

I don't remember where I saw it but I swear I saw a ruleset (probly outdated, I'll check the compendium. that's the book I grew up with so probly came from that) that allowed you to take the engine rating and compare it to the mechs total weight whether under or over loaded to recalculate the walking speed. that's why I was thinking of dragging an Arrow IV and tossing it when empty

A disposable Arrow IV would allow for some interesting abilities.

Thunder posted this 08 August 2018

3 ton Arrow IV One shot.  Even if you reduce the range the ability to MLRS the things all at once...

Captain posted this 12 August 2018

Actually, if you take a 100-tonner with Industrial TSM (permanent 20-ton capacity in the handheld mount), you can mount an Arrow IV with 3 tons of ammo protected by 2 tons of armor. Hmm...or 6 of the one-shot Arrows. Shudder

Thunder posted this 13 August 2018

Os arrow iv is made up by me. Its something i wish existed.

Prince posted this 14 August 2018

Eh, a Thunderbolt 20 is like 12 tons. You could jack a 75-tonner on TSM, give it like 6 rounds and a ton of armor and it'll do some work.

You know, this thread reminded me of one of the last 'Mech designs I posted on the old Solaris7, which used handheld weapons to become a poor-man's-Omnimech (Seriously, 20 tons of "pod space" for ~12 mil.).

I'll post it here later today.

Lift Hoist

As promised, here is that design: http://www.solaris7.com/thread/patriarch-pth-081-militiamech/

Meh.  Errata disagrees with lift hoists...  I disagree with errata....  I see the lift hoist as a mechanism to support the weight of the handheld weapon while the hands are free to maneuver it.

I posted an Incubus handheld carrier in my thread for kicks. Surprisingly enough, there's a lot you can do with 4 tons.
