So what's been going on? What happened to the old S7? And why do we need to answer a question to register?
So.... It's been awhile...

I missed the take down as well, but from what I gather,
Skyhigh needed to move the site, and there were some technical complications involved in that that made it impractical/impossible to transfer the data from the old site, and/or set the new one up again like the old one.
Advanced notice was given for people to get any info they didn't want to lose off the old site, but many people (like myself) never noticed the warning as we were not dropping by a lot.
Don't recall anything about questions. I found the new site shortly after it had gone like, don't recall if there were any registration questions or if so what they were.
The question was "Who controlled communications within the Inner Sphere" or something like that so I put ComStar, but that was invalid. So then I was like OK, Word of Blake, but that was wrong too. Comstar was the correct answer.
So is BT still alive and well? It looked like CBT.com is no more. What's new in the world?
That does sound familiar now that you mention it.
Battletech is alive, how well it is I'm not sure.
They havent put out a novel since Dark Ages novel since 2009. They did put out a book in each 2015 & 2016 set in the pre-Jihad timeline, but they were the 1st two since 2003. I highly doubt more will follow.
As far as the tabletop game goes, they are still putting out source books, but they haven't done much more than ~15 page books highlighting certain worlds in the past 2 years.
Computer game side seems to be doing OK. Mechwarrior 5:Mercenaries is in production, and original creator Jordan Weisman & game company Harebrained Schemes are about finished with a turnbased game that should be out (hopefully), in the next few months.
Interesting. Is that turn based game like MegaMek?
Interesting
So I really haven't been into BT for many years, and my books are collecting dust so I've decided to sell them. They're up on the eBay. If people are interested, I'll list them here when I can.

The website is alive, check http://bg.battletech.com/
So...everything is gone. Step away to take care of RL for a year or ten then come back to nothing. Ugh.
We are still there, split among different things and real life issues but we are still hanging around.

I like to think of it as "spring cleaning" in the most expedient manor. Besides, how well did you expect a website and its data made in ~2003 to transfer to current scripting?
I'm alive!
Explain your absence! And the results of the Assault lances in the previous nuts and bolts event!
Now seriously, how are you, and whats been happening?
And the results of the Assault lances in the previous nuts and bolts event!
That would be great
And we missed you.
BT is alive and actually surging a little thanks to HBS's game and Catalyst finally getting box sets out. In regards to S7, basically what Fabrizo said: Skyhigh needed to transfer web services, the new service didn't like the old site, so it stayed down. I talked to Skyhigh and got these forums online, but unfortunately this is about as much as I think we'll ever see of the old Solaris 7. Still a great place to catch up with "the old gang"
Well since you have better contacts then we do, can you ask Skyhigh if there is a backup of the old S7? And how much it would cost to get a copy?
Holy Cow!! Look at all those names. Haven't seen this bunch in a while

We are the names?
LOL Yepp. Gotta say I miss the old S7.
I wonder if it would be possible to crank that up again?
I'm sure it would be possible. Whether there is the demand and if anyone has the time, money, and inclination to is another question.

The real question is- would that even be a good idea? You're talking about restarting a website that was running the latest technology of ~2006 after all.
Not about the website itself. I just want to salvage all the designs and fluff that were on it when it went down.
This thread is like the section in Iain M Banks's Excession where all the legendary minds everyone thought were dead reappear from the darkness and take over the planning for the imminent war.
It's rather glorious.
Shame all the designs from the old S7 are gone. I had a lot of time and effort vested in that material. I don't hold anybody responsible, of course, especially Skyhigh, who I gather put a huge amount of effort into the site for little reward and who deserves all our thanks. But it's a shame, nonetheless.
I must try and fire up my ancient Toshiba laptop to see if it still has any old BT designs on the hard drive.

I must read it again.
Holy crap!......S7 is back? Man, I've been away too long.
I miss the old S7 site too. I mostly had vehicle designs. Fortunately I have kept paper copies of my best designs but it was always cool to see what other people put together.
Im glad some vestige of the old site remains. Even if its is a little less frequented lol

What is important is that it is alive and so is CBT.
So heyya peeps! Long time no type!
I saw Fabrizo had found some old mech data on his thread,
http://www.solaris7.com/thread/list-of-other-people-s-designs-i-have-from-the-old-solaris-7/
Slightly disappointed I didn't find any of my stuff, but I'm not surprised as I arrived late in the "game".
Like Thunder, I too would like to find any old stuff.
I really miss the RPG threads we did. I was chatting with my eldest the other day about an adventure on
a little planet named Thule with a certain Draconis Combine DEST unit, Rasalhaguers, and Ghost Bears.
Oh my!
I hope all is well with each of you.
U.B.
Hey Ursis.
I do remember you from the old site.
Don't read to into what 'Mechs I have and what I don't.
There were tons of excellent designs I didn't download.
Well over half of what I have were entrants from all the Nuts & Bolts contests.
And the other ones are mostly just ones that caught my attention for being different from the stuff I made myself or did things I never thought of (when I was active on S7 I had been building Mechs for 10 years or so, so I had tried a lot even if the vast majority of it never made it on S7).
I Still Function!
I'm impressed my Island Board set for MegaMek got integrated into the program development at Github.
Hey everyone. Nice to see some of the old crowd. Sad to see the old site gone, but I'm glad that something remains.
Can't say I'll check in as often as I used to, but dammit, I missed you guys.
I have to agree, I’ve been out of touch for a while. With only my phone I don’t think that my iPhone can handle SSW or anything HeavyMetal related.
It’s a shame since I’ve had a few dozen ideas for units, ‘Mechs, and a few ship designs.
I would love to get ahold of the code, or how he set it up for posting.
