Fluff.

Overview:
Information regarding The Society's attack on Ironhold and their subsequent loss
there is quite limited. However, one strange report has surfaced from multiple
sources. One report described it as a mobile structure used during The Society's
desperate defense of their enclave in the Peregrine Mountains. However, other
reports have identified it as a Superheavy Tripod. Apparently the monstrosity
could barely move so the confusion is understandable. Only one report offered
any detail on its fate. This report maintained that it was not destroyed but
rather disabled and captured by the Coyotes. It seems likely that the Coyotes
would dismantle it in their attempt to distance themselves from The Society.
However, its final disposition remains unknown.

Capabilities:
This last report also included rough technical specifications and designated the
monstrosity the Magnetar, due to its immense mass and because its magnetic
signature was first detected by the inbound Coyote dropships. Its massive leg
actuators only allowed it to creep across the battlefield, barely able to keep
pace with conventinal infantry. The Magnetar's most exceptional feature is its
over eighty tons of Hardened armor that make it about as resiliant to damage as
an entire Assault Star. Of course, the cumbersome armor does exacerbate its
mobility problems.

Luckily, it's tripod configuration made it surprisingly nimble and meant it had
no difficulty tracking targets. Its arsenal of heavy weapons was deadly, but
perhaps underwhelming given its immense size. Two Gauss Rifles and an ER PPC
offer solid, long-range punch. Two Hyper Assault Gauss Rifles pile on top of
that long range power and also proved quite deadly to airborne targets. However,
these weapons had many blind spots up close, a serious problem given its very
slow pace. It does carry four Anti-Personnel Gauss weapons to help discourage
swarm attacks. However, during the defense of Ironhold this weakness was
ultimately its downfall.

Battleforce. Not off hand. Alpha strike has tables in the companion.

Which brings up my concern. This unit is immobile in alpha strike. So it might be in "battle force" scale as well.

Luxan posted this 04 September 2017

Really, immobile?

BattleForce MV is just equal to the 'mech's Walking MP, so 1 in this case. I thought Alpha Strike was just 2" per walking MP, yes?

-1 for hardened armor.

Luxan posted this 04 September 2017

You might be right for Alpha Strike. I can't speak to it as I don't have the Companion.

But, as far as I can tell, BattleForce simply checks the Walking MP, which is not affected by Hardened armor.

Thunder posted this 04 September 2017

Yep.  Found the conversion rule.  BF just checks the walking MP after all modifiers are put together.

AS has a few special case rules to make things make less sense.  Hardened armor being one,  Detachable weapon packs being another.

There's a typo in the fluff. It says it has eight tons of armor. I was thinking that 8 tons is rather light, even with hardened armor.

Heh, eighty. It's supposed to be 80.

A mobile "Brick Wall".

Lol, nice catch. Fixed.
